Experts calling for refineries in Alberta

Energy experts say Alberta should consider building local upgraders and create more capacity to produce refined products to be exported if pipelines to the west coast don’t go ahead.
According to the Edmonton Journal, the director of Global Energy and Natural Resources for the Eurasia Group said at Thursday’s PricewaterhouseCoopers Energy Visions Business Forum Alberta could produce more synthetic crude to send east.
Robert Johnson says local refining is another option with a strong local demand for diesel.
New upgraders are now being built near Chicago and in Detroit to handle more of Alberta’s heavy oilsands crude.
