Vacations vs. staycations this summer

June has arrived, and with it comes vacation time for many Canadians.
According to a new BMO survey, 84 per cent of Canadians plan to take a vacation this year, up five per cent over 2011.
But, two-thirds of them plan to stay in Canada.
In Calgary, it appears to be a 50/50 split on who’s going and who’s staying for vacation time over the summer months.
Ian says he’s sticking close to home this year.
“I took a lot of vacations last year, so I’ll stay around this year,” explains Ian. “But I enjoy day trips around the area so it works out well for me.”
Curtis is road-tripping Western Canada for his vacation time with plans to visit Kelowna, B.C., and then his home town in Saskatchewan for its 100th anniversary.
“I’m going out there because I have options,” says Curtis. “I have lots of friends and family in the area with cabins and places I can stay so it won’t be overly expensive.”
Curtis also says he’d be fine staying in Calgary as it’s a great place for a staycation.
