First grads from Calgary Police Cadet program

A new Calgary Police Cadet program has its first two graduates.
Chad Verkerk and Eric Ellerman are the first to graduate from a program, launched last year, for 12 to 18 year olds.
Both Verkerk and Ellerman tell the Calgary Herald they hope to parlay the experience into careers in law enforcement.
But that’s not necessarily the goal of the program, according to Staff Sergeant Frank Cattoni of the CPS Youth Services program.
He says not all grads will become police officers, and the CPS administrators understand that. he says the goal is to build better leaders, citizens and community leaders, as well as developing young men and women who want to make an impact and initiate change in their community.
