Calgary’s core feels safe and not so dirty: report

Calgary’s downtown isn’t as dirty as it used to be and people feel safe when in the core.

According to the city’s 2012 Centre City Annual update, 89 per cent of people asked said the cleanliness has improved.

About the same amount of people also think safety in the core has improved or stayed the same in the last year.

The report also found, for the first time in the city’s history, downtown morning commuters are taking the bus or C-Train.

“It is exciting to see all of the achievements that have been accomplished in 2011.  We continue to hear from Calgarians that the work being done is making a difference.  The impact is significant for all Calgarians because when the Centre City prospers, all of Calgarians benefit.” said Dawn Thome, Project Manager for Centre City Implementation.

Around 159,000 people work downtown in the approximate 6,000 businesses.
