Flights resume at YYC

A lightning advisory that cancelled dozens of flights and delayed a number of others at the Calgary International Airport has been lifted.
The airport was put under a red alert around noon Wednesday after lightning strikes were reported in the area.
According to the airport’s website about 35 arrivals and 37 departures were cancelled.
Jennifer Sanford with WestJet tells 660News it was hard for their staff to find vacant hotels because of the Global Petroleum Show, however they are trying their best to find accommodations and alternate flights.
Airport Authority spokesperson Jody Moseley says, “with notifications sent to the airlines, they initiate their own internal policies in regards to whether they are going to allow personnel to operate outside, and typically that results in some delays.”
Moseley advises passengers to still check the status of their flight before heading to the airport.
