Monday’s river tragedy preventable: CFD

The Calgary Fire department says Monday’s death on the Bow River Weir, now known as the Harvie Passage, didn’t have to happen.
A raft flipped, dumping four people into the fast moving water, three made it to safety while the fourth died.
Calgary police had warned numerous people to stay off the river over the long weekend, including the group of four. Calgary’s fire chief says the conditions were even to dangerous for the department to do patrols.
“I would have like to seen a ban on the river for the last number weeks while the river has been flowing as high as it has been, it’s not in our powers to do that,” said Fire Chief Bruce Burrell.
Authorities continue to warn people to stay off the rivers.
