The unofficial kick-off to the centennial celebration of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth saw a spike in attendance this year.
Thursday night’s Sneak-a-Peek at Stampede Park drew in just over 39,000 people, which is almost 2,000 more people on the same day last year.
While it’s a better showing, the record same-day attendance was set in 1992 with just over 89,000 people in the park.
Admission was $8 and gates were open from 5 p.m. to midnight as excited Calgarians checked out the newest on the midway and vendors for the 100th Stampede.
