Groundbreaking for Agrium Western Event Centre

Two heavy horses pulling a plow broke ground to start construction Sunday on the new Agrium Western Event Centre at Stampede Park.
It will be home to a 2,500 seat main area, a show area and an exhibition hall totalling 150,000 square feet.
It replaces the existing agriculture facilities and will be located north of the grandstand.
Premier Alison Redford was among those at the groundbreaking.
“I was walking around a couple of community pancake breakfasts on Saturday and two young women from Vancouver came up to me and asked what should we do so we enjoy stampede, and I said you’ve got to go to the barns because at the end of the day that’s what stampede is, explained Redford.
The centre will open its doors 2014.
