Police kept busy on the Stampede Grounds

When you head to the Stampede Grounds, be prepared for a random search of what you’re bringing on to the grounds.
It’s part of the security detail at Stampede Park, which — like this year’s 100th anniversary celebrations — have been stepped up.
According to the Calgary Herald, security staff has increased by six per cent for this year’s event and 30 extra surveillance cameras have been added to central dispatch. Along with the cameras already in place, Big Brother has over a hundred cameras keeping tabs on the 238 acre site.
The grounds become the equivalent of Alberta’s third largest city for 10 days based on population. The 200 security personnel on patrol are joined by 75 Calgary Police Service members.
The peak period for the police presence is between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. daily.
