If bears pique your interest, or you’re concerned about safety while hiking and camping in the mountains, check out The Bear Facts in Lake Louise.
Omar McDadi of Parks Canada tells 660News it’s an informational show designed for the entire family.
“So far the reviews have been really good,” says McDadi of the show which runs every Thursday and Saturday night starting at 8pm. “Our interpreter who’s there, she’s great. She talks about what people can do to stay safe in bear country and also kind of goes through the differences between a black bear and a grizzly bear.”
“There’s sort of a summary of some of the bear research that’s been happening in the national parks over the last few years,” McDadi continues. “There’s some snippets with actual researchers. There’s some videos that are played in addition to our interpreter who’s great. She uses lots of audience interaction and costumes and gives out prizes and things like that. So it’s a pretty fun show.”
It’s not a case of presenting dry facts. There’s entertainment value, especially for the kids.
“There’s sort of a bear ID fashion show,” adds McDadi. “So we look at five main ways to tell the difference between a grizzly bear and a black bear. There’s also a really fun bear chef’s restaurant segment which looks at some of the basic foods to be aware of that bears love, some of the plants you can find in the park, to heighten awareness while you’re out there hiking.”
Admission to the shows free with your park admission fee.
