The holiest month in the Islamic calendar will begin Thursday just after sunset.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset.
The start of Ramadan is based on a sighting of the waxing crescent moon.
That means members of some Mosques will begin marking the holy month this evening and others later this week, depending on which lunar experts they follow.
