Fines for transit cheaters going up

It’s official; people who don’t buy a ticket for the LRT will be digging deeper into their pockets.

After weeks of warnings, city council approved the hike for CTrain cheaters from $150 to $250 Monday.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi tells The Calgary Herald he doesn’t think fare evasion will stop but says the increase could reduce the problem.

Officials say this could mean an added $750-thousand for the city annually.
