ERCB approves Enbridge application for pump stations and pipeline

Enbridge Inc. is in the clear to build two new pump stations and a pipeline, to carry diluted bitumen from Fort McMurray to Sherwood Park.
The news comes after the Energy Resources Conservation Board approved the company’s application for the project, which should have the capacity to carry 400,000 barrels a day.
Bob Curran with the ERCB said several groups had objected the project, but that changed when the company changed its route.
“Almost all of the parties withdrew their objections,” he said. “At the conclusion of the process, we issued this decision which approved the applications and Enbridge is now eligible to go ahead and build.”
The ERCB held a hearing in late June to consider the applications.
Curran added the project will parallel existing pipelines and be approximately 385 kilometres long.
