Restrictions need to be in place for ATV use: Instructor

Just ahead of the long weekend, a group is calling for children and youth to be banned from operating ATVs.

The Canadian Paediatric Society says each year close to 450 children under the age of 15 are hurt and hospitalized because of  all-terrain vehicle accidents and that number is on the rise.

Bonnie Lackey, who’s an ATV instructor based in the Calgary-Cochrane area tells 660News, it’s time something needs to be done and it’s frustrating the people in power aren’t making this a priority.

Lackey adds with so many resources, there should be no reason for this to be happening and notes making wearing helmets a law will become a societal norm, just like wearing seatbelts.
