Calgary Pride Parade organizers expecting record turnout

Calgary’s most colourful parade should be bigger than ever.
Up to 30,000 people are expected to watch the Calgary Pride Parade Sunday along Stephen Avenue.
For the first time ever, a sitting premier will attend the event and address the crowd.
Pride Calgary President Dallas Barnes said it will be a busy day for Alison Redford.
“She’s actually flying in specifically for our event, she actually has an event in Edmonton, it’s the 100 anniversary of the legislature building being built,” she said. “So she’s literally flying in last minute and then giving her speech, yada yada and then she has to go and do some other stuff, so we’re really, really honoured to have her there.”
There are also more parade entries than ever, including several businesses, not for profit groups, and the Calgary police.
The parade starts at noon at Olympic Plaza, marches west along 8th Avenue, and ends at Shaw Millennium Park where the street festival begins.
