Fundraiser to feed Calgary kids

With the start of the new school year our kids will sometimes see a classmate at noon each day without a lunch.
An organization called Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids is trying to stop that from happening.
It has a kitchen downtown making about 40 per cent of the three thousand lunches it sends out to kids in Calgary every day. The rest are made by community groups and volunteers.
Executive director Tanya Koshowski tells 660News it’s mainly teachers and students that tell them when a child is in need.
“It’s little Katy that’s coming to school with a piece of bread and butter or, one of the other little guys that I know, he was saying his lunch was stolen every day. When they looked into it further they found there was no food at home for him to have,” says Koshowski.
A fundraiser is being put on this weekend for the organization.
The annual Eligeo Ball hockey” tournament still needs players for the event at the Kingsland Community Centre this Saturday.
It’s hoped the 3-on-3 tournament will raise up to $4-thousand.
The third annual event will feature live entertainment from Marija & ShadowsTalk.
