Police issue safety warning

Calgary police are cautioning residents following two violent attacks in the past 48 hours.
The first came Thursday night at around 10:00.
A woman lent a man a lighter, and when he returned it, he attacked her.
The incident took place in the 1700 block of 9th Ave southwest.
The second occurred Saturday sometime after 5:00 a.m.
A woman was walking along Bonaventure Drive, near 90th Avenue southeast when she was attacked.
The victim was later discovered by a passer-by and remains in hospital in stable, but serious condition.
Duty Inspector Paul Stacey tells 660News walkers need to pay attention to what’s going on around them.
“Walk in well-lit areas, stay out of dark shadows; Just be aware of your surroundings. If you like to walk with ear buds or headphones, just make sure that your unit is turned down low enough so you know what’s going on around you. Also assure that somebody knows where you are and when you’re expected to be home.” says Stacey.
In the Thursday attack, police are looking for a man in his mid-30’s, Caucasian, about 6 feet tall, brown collar length hair that’s shorter in the front, medium build; at the time he was wearing jeans and a short sleeved shirt.
Meantime in the Saturday assault, the suspect is approximately 40 years of age, either Caucasian or aboriginal, long scraggly dark hair, with some facial hair, between 5’5″ and 5’9″ and a medium build.
Police believe the two incidents are not related.
