NHL labour talks back on, season still in jeopardy

The National Hockey League Players’ Association has agreed to meet with National Hockey League representatives in New York Wednesday.
The hastily-called meeting comes four days before a threatened league lockout with the current collective bargaining agreement set to expire at midnight September 15th.
The voice of the Calgary Flames, Peter Maher, with Sportsnet 960 the Fan says rumour has it the players are set to table another offer to the owners, looking to solve the impasse on the contentious issue of revenue sharing.
Morning show host on Sportsnet 960 the Fan, Dean Molberg, says even if a deal is struck on revenue sharing, problems with salary arbitration and entry-level contracts still need to be resolved as well.
Molberg says it’s good news the two sides are meeting, but he still believes the players will be locked out.
NHL players currently receive 57 per cent of hockey-related revenues, a figure the owners want significantly reduced.
The Flames’ player representative, Matt Stajan, says the players aren’t the greedy bunch the owners are trying to make them out to be.
Stajan says the players are looking to strike a fair deal to help grow the game on both sides of the border.
A lockout would be the NHL’s fourth work stoppage since 1992.
