Calgary Catholic School District revamps report cards

Calgary’s Catholic school system has overhauled report cards.
The Calgary Herald reports the Calgary Catholic School District received many complaints from parents that the report cards are too hard to understand and are laced with “teacher talk.”
The board embarked on an 18-month project, speaking with parents, teachers, principals and students.
They have now drawn up a new report card they hope is better than the old one.
One big shift will be in language and detail, a move away from comments like: “John consistently takes ownership of personal learning, actions and behaviours.”
The letter grades A, B, C, and D are gone from the elementary school report.
They are replaced by excellence, above acceptable, acceptable, not yet meeting acceptable and not assessed.
In junior high, percentages will remain the standard.
