Billion-dollar blueprints for transit

Calgary’s future transit lines will cost more than $8-billion the city doesn’t have yet.
City officials had a first look at the new 30-year plan at a special meeting Monday.
The plan includes new LRT lines, extensions of current lines and new bus and rapid transit routes.
The blueprints also call for an $800-million LRT tunnel that would run under 8th Ave. downtown.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi tells The Calgary Herald it’s a lot of money, but if you compare it with what other municipalities are spending on transit, the number is not unreasonable.
Council will revisit the plans next Monday.
