Daniel Tschetter granted day parole

The man who killed five people, including three children, in a horrific crash nearly five years ago is now out on day parole.

Daniel Tschetter was sentenced to 8 years in jail on manslaughter and obstruction of justice charges for the crash in December of 2007.

Due to time served and other circumstances, the sentence was set at five and a half years.

Tschetter is under conditions not to contact the families of his victims, not to drive, and not to consume alcohol.

The force of the truck slamming into the car stopped at a red light killed Chris Gautreau, his two daughters Alexia, 9, and Kiarra, 6, as well as Gautreau’s 33-year-old girlfriend Melaina Hovdebo and her 16-month-old son, Zachary.

Zachary’s uncle Herb Grieder says he’s glad Tschetter didn’t get full parole.

He says the man still has a lot of changing to do and that includes, realizing how his actions destroyed the lives of so many.

Grieder tells 660News there are a lot out there who need to take a lesson from this tragedy

“Impaired driving, or careless driving, high speed driving, just all has to change for the better, and people have to realize how their incidents and how their actions will affect so many people.”

Day parole allows Tschetter to serve his sentence in a halfway house.
