First ever penguin egg at Calgary Zoo

The first ever penguin egg has been laid at the Calgary Zoo.
The zoo’s famous splashing King Penguin Asa made history around noon Thursday with her partner Tut.
Manager, Communications Laurie Skene tells 660News while it is exciting news, everyone must remain cautiously optimistic.
“She’s doing all the right things. It’s very early yet to know whether you know we don’t know if the egg is fertile. Her partner is a very young male so even though she has an egg, it doesn’t mean it’s actually fertile and would turn into a chick,” Skene says.
There are other potential dangers during the incubation period which can between 52 to 62 days. Other penguins could try stealing the egg or it could get dropped or cracked.
