TORONTO, Ont. – An investigation dubbed “Project Roxy” continues, after Toronto Police arrested a third person in a juvenile prostitution and human trafficking probe.
It’s alleged two girls, aged 14 and 15, were picked up at a group home in northwest Toronto and forced into prostitution in the Sherbourne Street area.
Alberto Enrique Vazquez, 21, of Toronto, has been charged with 10 prostitution-related offences, and was arrested after he surrendered to police on Wednesday. This followed the arrest of a 16-year-old girl and another young man last month.
Detective Mark Benallick said officers were able to make all three arrests with the help of the public.
“Serious criminality, such as juvenile prostitution and human trafficking, are the millstone of the entire community. To those members of the community who offered their assistance to the police in this investigation, I would like to express my appreciation,” he told reporters, Thursday.
“I can assure you all that the victims have been rescued from this dangerous environment, and are now receiving all the support and assistance that they will need in moving forward with their lives.”
However, the investigation has not wrapped up at this point.
Charges range from procuring a person to become a prostitute, to trafficking in persons.
