Skiing in October? ‘Tis true!

It’s hard to believe since it’s still October, but you have your choice of areas to ski and snowboard, this weekend.
The list includes Canada Olympic Park.
“We’ve been able to make snow since Sunday night,” COP spokesman Dale Oviatt tells 660News. “So we’re going to open up the Gold and Silver Carpets here at 9 a.m. on Saturday — from 9 to 5 — and from 9 to 5 on Sunday as well.”
“It’s not the big mountain,” Oviatt continues. “The main hill we’re still anticipating will open on November 16th, perhaps earlier depending on the weather. But the Gold and Silver Carpets give you the opportunity to kind of get the summer rust off.”
If you’re looking for more than getting the rust off, Nakiska opens Saturday and Mount Norquay is open for a third straight day.
On Thursday, 300 to 400 people turned out for the season opening of the ski hill, and several hundred more were on hand for a second day of skiing and boarding on Friday.
One skier, Logan Johnston of Lacombe, tells the Calgary Herald, the ski hill is in really good shape and by looking at the trees, you’d think it was late December or early January.
