An 81-year old Turner Valley woman confined to a wheelchair had to be rushed to hospital suffering from extensive burns and smoke inhalation after a house fire early Monday.
Just after 10:30 a.m., a fire broke out at a residence in Turner Valley and once emergency crews arrived, they discovered neighbours had pulled the 81-year-old woman from the burning home to safety.
Fire crews from Turner Valley, Black Diamond and Priddis extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading further.
A neighbouring home was also damaged from the intense heat.
The cause is still under investigation.
