Siksika Nation under financial spotlight

An audit highlights fraud and mismanagement, but the federal government says the Siksika First Nation, east of Calgary, is one of the better run in Canada.
An MNP audit report in July found the Siksika administration was not following the financial law of the nation, and in some cases people were writing cheques to themselves in order to get cash from the bank.
Those allegations have been handed over to police.
The chief tells The Calgary Sun governance has improved over the years, and it takes time to implement new financial rules brought in a couple years ago.
One disgruntled member of the band accuses those in charge of keeping people in the dark about what’s going on.
