Calgarians set for Grey Cup Sunday

The red and white jerseys will be out across Calgary in full force for Sunday’s Grey Cup game day.

And whether Calgarians will be heading to the pubs across town or opting for their LA-Z-Boys, Stamps fans are ready to watch their beloved John Cornish battle it out with the Argo’s Ricky Ray at the centennial Grey Cup in Toronto.

Kelly Sane and her girls are going to be enjoying the game at home with friends, while dad will be out celebrating with the boys.

But Kelly says she’s more than happy to be taking it all in couch-style.

“It’s not going to be a big thing in our house, it’s low-key,” she says.

“I think this is going to be a great game; it’s going to be awesome.”

Daughter Mackenzie equally shares her mother’s sentiment – only for her it’s all about half time.

“I’m just going to be there for Justin [Bieber]. He’s pretty much my favourite star,” says MacKenzie. “He is awesome and he is, like, the most amazing thing ever.”

Stamps fans Grant and Francois are serving up carnivorous treats from their respective kitchens.

While Grant’s already got a bird in the fridge to make turkey sandwiches for the guys, Francois, who works at a wine shop, is going to town with the meat and, of course, his pick of libations.

“I’m going to get my rye on, my beer on, my wine on. And there’s no driving tomorrow,” says the French Canadian transplant.

“We’re going to do the “home thing” — we started cooking; there’s some pulled pork happening. We’re braising so it should be ready in time for the game.”

Mike and Nancy aren’t going anywhere but the comforts of their love nest, eating veggies and dip.

And Calgarian Farzad’s going to be out with friends at a local watering hole.

He says he opts for CFL over NFL games and one of his favourite football memories is when he shared Grey Cup cheer with quarterback Jeff Garcia.

“I remember I was here and (former Stampeder quarterback) Jeff Garcia brought The Cup to the nightclub and I had a sip of the champagne — in the Cup! It was great!”

Farzad’s piece of advice to pub crawlers: “Get there early!”
