A proposed bylaw would see the former home of a Calgary artist in Lower Mount Royal declared a heritage site.
The structure at 915 18th Avenue southwest was the residence of painter and sculptor John Snow for almost half a century.
Snow, who died in 2004, was a key figure in Alberta’s arts scene, and his home was the site of gatherings and exhibitions for local artists.
According to The Calgary Herald, in 2003, the province recognized the residence as a historical resource, preventing the removal or disturbance of the property without government permission.
The city argues it’s a potential tourist attraction.
