The father of a 24-year-old man shot dead by Edmonton police during an alleged bank robbery says his son believed he had cancer.
The man, identified by his father as Mike Grisch to The Edmonton Journal, was allegedly told he may have intestinal cancer by a doctor last week.
Grisch’s father speculates, maybe his son didn’t want to live with cancer and wanted the police would do him a favour.
The young man was also the father to a young daughter who, according to friends, was all he cared about.
The robbery happened Tuesday, December 11, at a Canadian Western Bank location but officials have not said whether Grisch fired a gun during the confrontation.
