First Nations Chief Theresa Spence is on day 20 of her hunger strike, which she said will continue until Prime Minister Stephen Harper meets with Aboriginal leaders to discuss policies.
Chief Spence held an open house for MPs and Senators Sunday afternoon on Victoria Island.
In her statement, which was read to the crowd, Spence said “we are demanding our rights and place back in our homeland we call Canada.”
Spence then met with NDP and Liberal MPs who attended the meeting.
“I’m asking her {Spence} to look after herself and I’m asking the Prime Minister, don’t be a fool, don’t play with this woman’s health,” said New Democrat Charlie Angus.
Both parties said the Prime Minister needs to meet with Aboriginal leaders.
“First Nations and Aboriginal people do not feel they are consulted when legislation is adopted up in the House of Commons,” said Liberal Marc Garneau.
Spence started her hunger strike on December 11th.
