Mother charged with impaired driving in death of nine-year-old daughter

BRIDGEWATER, N.S. – Police have charged a 30-year-old Nova Scotia woman with impaired driving causing the death of her nine-year-old daughter in an incident earlier this month.
Police initially declined to confirm if Candice Roxanne Moore is the mother of the dead girl, Olive Moore.
However, late on Monday, Cpl. Scott MacRae said the media reports stating that Candice Moore is the girl’s mother are accurate.
“RCMP in Nova Scotia are confirming what media is reporting about the relationship of the lady charged,” he said.
Candice Moore — a resident of Pleasantville, a small community on Nova Scotia’s south shore — is also facing a charge of failing to submit to a breathalyzer.
Police have said Olive was dropped off at a home on Corkum Road in the rural community at around noon on Jan. 19, and she was allegedly hit as she stood in the road as a van left the driveway.
Candice Moore is scheduled to appear in Bridgewater provincial court on March 27.
An obituary for Olive says she was a poet who wanted to be a rock star and it included lyrics to a song she wrote.
It says she was energetic and “ran, danced, jumped and cartwheeled her way through this world.”
“She was the core of the family, and wanted everyone as close as possible,” the obituary says. “She held her own among an abundance of boys in the family, all the while remaining a true, sparkling girl.”
The obituary lists Candice Moore as the mother.
It says Olive is survived by her parents and five brothers.
