Watch out Calgary.
There are more bikes out there than you might think.
A report shows a 20 per cent increase in cyclists pedaling into the core last year.
At peak hours, they make up almost six per cent of traffic downtown.
Richard Zach with Bike Calgary tells 660News the new peace bridge is now the second most popular access point, behind the bow river pathway.
“Lots of people said that we don’t need another bridge there, because there is Prince’s Island on the west side and 10th Street on the east, but the numbers show that the peace bridge really attracts 650 cyclists a day,” he says.
Bike Calgary says their count puts the number of people riding bicycles in and out of downtown at more than 12,000.
