More Canadians trying horse meat after scandal

An Edmonton deli reports more Canadians are curious to try horse meat in the wake of a scandal in Europe.

The false labelling of horse meat sold in various beef products across Europe temporarily hurt overseas exports from Alberta’s horse meat industry.

But now that European authorities have said a Polish labeller was likely responsible for the mistaken labelling, local horse meat suppliers could be seeing a boost.

The owner of Ben’s Meat and Deli in west Edmonton says he’s getting a lot more interested customers.

The Calgary Herald reports Canada exported about 13,500 metric tonnes of horse meat in 2011.
