Safety plan not followed in ape escape

New reports say safety protocols weren’t followed at The Calgary Zoo after gorillas escaped their enclosure and broke into a kitchen.

A source tells The Calgary Sun, the incident was first communicated as having the highest urgency, which means alerting visitors and staff of the danger.

However, management failed to give a public warning over the loudspeaker.

Spokesperson Trish Exton-Parder says zoo patrons were never at risk.

A zookeeper who received minor injuries is taking some time off.
