The city will not be diverting most waste from landfills over the next few years despite intentions to expand its composting program.
Calgary was hoping to divert 80 per cent of wastes from the landfill by 2020, but officials say that goal is no longer possible.
Alderman Brian Pincott tells The Calgary Sun the target is unlikely to be reached because of other factors that need to happen, like a recycling and composting program for multi-family residences.
Council must also work on plans to build a composting facility.
