A city committee has approved a plan to use the original lion statues from Calgary’s Centre Street Bridge as art for the West LRT line.
Council has promised while the lions may not be fully restored, they will be preserved and displayed as public art.
One or two of them could be re-interpreted into new art pieces, or stabilized and moved into a display case.
The 97-year-old lions have been sitting in storage since 1999.
A public consultation will likely be held in a couple of months to discuss how best to use the statues.
