BBB warns of phoney Boston charities

Scam artists are setting up phoney websites trying to dupe you into donating to victims of the Boston Marathon Bombings.

Art Taylor, President and CEO of the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance, tells 660News they’ve seen over a hundred sites set up so far and he’s encouraging people to steer clear.

“You should also be aware that if you receive an unsolicited email from something purporting to be a charity, that it could also be a scam.   Most charities do not send unsolicited emails, particularly if you haven’t had a relationship with the charity in the past,” says Taylor.

He says the best bet is to stick with established charities.
