The man at the centre of a leaked video is defending his efforts to rally support and cash to elect more “developer friendly” people to Calgary city council.
Cal Wenzel, the founder and CEO of Shane Homes, tells Calgary Sun columnist Rick Bell, they’re trying to make him out to be the big bad wolf.
Wenzel says he takes pride in his impeccable reputation, adding “I don’t lie, I don’t cheat, I didn’t do anything wrong.”
He says he’s not trying to buy council.
Earlier this week, Global TV aired part of a video that was leaked from a builders meeting last fall, during which Wenzel is on the podium talking about which members of city council are developer friendly and which ones are not.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi is calling for an investigation; Alberta’s Municipal Affairs Minister Doug Griffiths calls the video disturbing.
Wenzel suggests if Nenshi wants a fight then he’s going to get one.
He says all he expects from the people he has supported in the past and in the future is they use common sense and logic when weighing development proposals.
