Independence Day original target for bombing suspects: ABC News

ABC News has learned the Boston Marathon wasn’t the original target of the suspected bombers.

Sources say Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has told investigators the brothers were looking at targets on July 4th in the city of Boston.

But, they completed the bombs earlier than anticipated, so they decided to hit the marathon.

The bombs were put together in Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s apartment in Cambridge.

On Wednesday, authorities arrested three 19-year-old friends of Dzhokhar’s: Dias Kadyrbayev and Azamat Tazhayakov, both students originally from Kazakhstan.

American Robel Phillipos was also arrested.

In addition to the conspiracy to obstruct charges against Kadyrbayev and Tazhayakov, Phillipos is charged with lying to federal investigators.

The body of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was killed in a shootout with police, was claimed Thursday by a funeral home hired by his family.
