Boob Rock

A concert will be held Saturday night to raise funds to battle cancer and help a young woman whose family was devastated by a deadly fire in February.

Organizer Anna Mae Alexander says half the money raised this year will go to the Nicholls Tragedy Relief fund.

“The Nicholls’ daughter Sam was dealing with leukemia and their home burned down and her mother passed away.   I can’t imagine what it would be like going through what she was already going through and then having something like that happen,” she says.

Samantha Nicholls was supposed to start chemotherapy for her bone marrow transplant the day her mother died.

“They’re having some issues with her student loans because if you quit school, you still owe that money, even if you’ve got cancer.  But even beyound that, you know, there’s drugs, there’s dressings on wounds, there’s time off work, there’s parking — Sam’s family has spend ridiculous amount of money parking at the hospital in the last few months,” says Alexander.

The money raised at the benefit will help the family cope with the mounting financial costs they’re facing.

Alexander, whose own mother has battled breast cancer, says the other half of the funds raised this year are going to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

The concert – called Boob Rock – will be held Saturday night, May 18th, at the Varsity Community Association at 7pm.

The cost is $10.00 at the door.
