Former AHS exec wants severance

A former Alberta Health exec continues to push for severance pay, even after racking up $300,000 in lavish expenses while he was on the job.

Alberta Health Services says former CEO Allaudin Merali’s contract guarantees his severance will equal one year’s pay which is around $580,000.

Current CEO Dr. Chris Eagle tells The Calgary Sun, he understands why Albertans feel Merali does not deserve the money but it’s a matter of contractual agreement.

According to a release dated August of 2012, Merali has already been promised the severance.
