OTTAWA – The federal government has revealed the soundtrack for the nation’s 146th birthday.
Heritage Minister James Moore announced the musical line-up for Canada Day 2013 at the Canadian Museum of Nature, Wednesday afternoon.
The noon show, which is hosted by opera singer Measha Bruggergosman and organ-donation champion Hélène Campbell, includes a roster full of Canadian talent.
Pop star Carly Rae Jepsen will headline the noon show event, alongside indie-rockers Metric, and Francophone pop rock singer Marie-Mai.
The noon show line-up also includes country singer Terri Clark, Quebec pop star Karim Ouellet and a performance from Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield.
Heritage Minister James Moore says he expects to see a young audience at the show.
“When I was up there announcing … some of these younger artists, the kids’ eyes lit up,” says Moore. “The parents should be ready for their kids to drag them out.”
All performers will return for a second round of entertainment during the evening show, except for Marie-Mai.
As well, the evening show will include Sylvain Cossette, Radio Radio, Lucie Idlout and DJ Abeille.
This will the last time the NCC hosts the Canada Day bash on the Hill.
As outlined in the federal budget, the Canadian Heritage Department will take over many of the NCC’s signature events like Canada Day and Winterlude.
The federal government says transferring the responsibility will ensure the celebration on Canada Day is nationally focused.
