Rural schools mull over tax levy

Public schools in Banff and Canmore are appealing to voters for extra cash to deal with provincial funding cuts and low enrolment.

Trustees at the Canadian Rockies School Board are considering using a special property tax levy to fund projects.

The Calgary Herald reports, a plebiscite question may be added to the October municipal election ballot, asking voters to support the idea.

The special tax would add up to $600,000 a year over four years.

Trustees vote June 18th on whether to initiate the plebiscite.
