Radio host considers making a run for the Mayor’s chair

The upcoming municipal election in Calgary could become hotly contested.

Talk radio host Dave Rutherford says he’s been approached to mount a challenge against Naheed Nenshi.

Rutherford says at this point he is only considering the idea, adding it’s something he will talk over with his wife.

He says he won’t make a final decision until he retires in late July.

The 64-year-old has spent the past 20 years on the air in the Calgary, discussing the various news topics of the day.

Calgarians have seen media personalities on the ballot before.

In the last municipal vote, Nenshi easily defeated all challengers, including former TV anchor Barb Higgins.

Back in 1980, Calgarians elected Ralph Klein to the Mayor’s chair, Klein a former television reporter who eventually became one of Alberta’s most popular premiers.

He passed away earlier this year, with the celebration of his life attracting a huge crowd at the Jack Singer Concert Hall downtown.
