Two of twelve contractors have now been approved to take over home care in the province.
The announcement by Alberta Health Services about the reduction of home care providers has sparked concern for both workers and those they care for, but Chief Executive Chris Mazurkewich says they are trying to make the transition easy for both the organizations and their clients.
“We’re working with the service providers who will be taking the business over, and the service providers who are losing the business, of how best to do that. We’ve also hired an independent person who’s been through transition plans on homecare contracts before to provide oversight, and to provide us with advice.” He says.
Mazurkewich denied the assertion the organization was moving towards being for-profit.
He says decisions about what contractors to keep were based on cost, track records and accountability.
