Calgary firefighters were able to quickly knock down a fire in the city’s north end on Sunday evening.
Battalion Chief Al Magwood says they received the call at around 8:00 p.m. to Centre A Street and 40th Avenue North.
He says, “Upon arrival, they found the fire underneath the deck of a four-plex. The heat from the flames had actually fractured and broken the window of the lower basement apartment. The flames entered the complex through the window and fortunately the bedroom door was closed which contained the flames to the bedroom itself.”
Magwood says sixteen people self-evacuated from the area and they’re all safe.
He adds the people can’t return home immediately because of smoke damage and the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
