A dramatic police takedown played out in front of patrons at a northeast fast food restaurant Thursday afternoon.
The tactical team swooped down on a McDonald’s eatery on Falconridge Drive, hauling away a man and a woman.
The two are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, and investigators say the pair was getting ready to initiate the plan.
The case is being handled by the Domestic Conflict Unit; one of the accused is the former lover of one of the intended targets.
According to The Calgary Sun, city police don’t believe the two targets had any idea how much danger they were in before the takedown.
One of the suspects has a history of domestic violence and this arrest follows a recent incident that had police keeping a close eye.
It’s not known if the accused pair had weapons on them or in their vehicle when they were taken into custody.
Police say they’re just happy to have foiled the plans.
The Domestic Conflict Unit is expected to release more information Friday.
