Two options in $52-millon debate violate council policy

The $52-million tax surplus debate is getting more confusing at city hall.
It turns out two of five options proposed by aldermen to spend the extra tax room cash, are against council’s own policy.
According to The Calgary Sun, lowering the business tax or giving it back in the form of lower property taxes won’t work because council’s policy is to take it and spend it on debt reduction or building projects.
Alderman Diane Colley-Urquhart says unless the rules are changed, they’ll be forced to only consider the other three options (investing in transit, maintaining and upgrading older neighbourhoods, or reducing the city’s debt.)
Council plans to vote on how to use the money July 22nd.
