High River evacuees moved to dorms

Flood evacuees from High River are being moved to dorms at the University of Lethbridge starting Thursday.

High River’s mayor said centres for displaced resident will be emptied first; beginning with those staying in Nanton.

Emile Blokland said he doesn’t know if there will be a program set up for fuel assistance.

The Calgary Sun reports, 40 to 50 per cent of evacuees work at Cargill near Aldersyde and will have a farther drive to work.

Two centres are being set up in Nanton and Vulcan to provide pre-loaded cash cards to people who have been evacuated seven days or more.
