City update proclaims downtown is open

More good news from the City of Calgary, although the mayor says there’s still a lot of work to be done.
Naheed Nenshi updated residents on Monday in his State of the City Address.
He confirmed the downtown is open again.
“Twelve days after the worst flooding that we have ever seen in southern Alberta, we are back,” says Nenshi.
City Hall is also set to re-open tomorrow, with limited services.
Parking downtown is still expected to be a mess this week, so the City is requesting residents walk, bike or take transit in the core.
Nenshi adds river flows on both the Bow and Elbow Rivers are steady, and is reminding people not to contaminate the water with mud and sludge waste.
Those who do will face consequences.
Nenshi’s latest update also confirmed about 700 people are still using evacuation centres, as East Village remains in rough shape.
“A lot of those buildings are severely damaged, and they still don’t have power connections. I’ve spoken in our last few briefings about how the biggest concern I’ve got right now is to make sure some of those seniors, in those East Village towers, are able to find appropriate housing and get home as soon as possible,” says Nenshi.
In the southwest, the 25th Avenue Bridge over the Bow River is open again.
